Session Length
Session length is a website metric that measures the amount of time that a user spends on a website during a single visit or session. It is a common metric used to measure engagement and user interest in the website’s content. A longer session length generally indicates that a user is more engaged with the website’s content and finds it more relevant and interesting.
The formula for calculating session length is:
Session length = (Total time spent on the website / Number of sessions)
- “Total time spent on the website” is the total amount of time that all users spend on the website during a specific time period.
- “Number of sessions” is the total number of visits to the website during that same time period.
For example, if users spend a total of 500 minutes on a website during a month and there were 1000 sessions in that month, the average session length would be 0.5 minutes.
Session length can be measured in different units of time, like minutes, seconds or hours. It’s also possible to track session length by specific pages, sections or events on the website, this way you can get a better understanding of which parts of the website are more engaging.
